Cool Route Leader Partner CIT establishes Superyacht Division at National Maritime College of Ireland

Wasi SabiThe many Super-yachting followers of the Cool Route will be pleased to learn that the lead partner, Cork Institute of Technology, which operates the National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI) as its Maritime Research and Nautical Training Campus, has now established a Superyacht Division.

In a move to broaden the base of NMCI operations even further and to capitalise on the ever growing global Superyacht market, over the past twelve months NMCI has made significant investments in developing course programmes for this exciting sector.

Last week the new Superyacht Team, led by the Head of NMCI Services, Jim O’Byrne, secured approval from the Private Yachting Association (PYA) to become a GUEST accredited Training Provider.

This accreditation will complement NMCI’s existing programmes for deck and engine crew right up to Masters Qualification. The PYA were very impressed by the staff and facilities at the NMCI and by Dr Noel Murray and his team and facilities in CIT’s Department of Tourism & Hospitality.

NMCI is now one of the 20 plus GUEST accredited training providers worldwide, who will be working with us to maintain standards of education and learning outcomes for the student’s investment.

Through the Cool Route project, CIT has built a strong engagement with promoting more superyacht visits to the Cork coastline. The recently published invitational brochure to superyachts has contributed to a far great number of these craft visiting our area. The brochure can be viewed here

The highly prestigious Boat international Magazine, read by superyacht owners worldwide recently ranked the Cool Route as No.1 of the 6 most Adventurous Superyacht Cruising Destinations on the globe.–31175

As the superyacht business continues to grow, the new crew training programme at NMCI should be a very important asset to the expansion of the sector, not alone on the Cool Route but worldwide.
