Cool Route welcomes the inclusion of Ireland’s Western Seaboard

Following a very productive meeting of the Cool Route partners, held in Glasgow last week , which was hosted by Glasgow Caledonian University, the project is very pleased to announce the inclusion of the West of Ireland Counties of Galway,  Mayo and Clare,  into the Cool Route Marketing Programme.

Discussions led by Port of Galway, Harbour Master,  Captain Brian Sheridan, led to the inclusion of an  distance of c.150 nautical miles of Irish coastline into the Cool Route marketing campaign, which has a very strong focus galwayon the growing numbers of private craft, super-yachts and passenger liners visiting the coastlines of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, the Faroe islands and Norway.

Speaking at the publication of the updated marketing brochure, which is available for viewing here, Captain Sheridan emphasised the growing importance of Leisure Marine Tourism worldwide. Noting that the Cool Route had been ranked by Boat International as the most Adventurous Cruising Ground in the world, he stressed the importance of visitors to Ireland’s south coast being attracted to the west of Ireland, which has a wealth of coastal attractions- ranging from the famous Galway Bay to numerous unspoiled off-shore islands.   Ireland’s West coast also provides a link for Northern Ireland and Scottish boats to extend their cruising range along the route.

Welcoming the inclusion of the three new Irish counties, Cool Route Project Manager Dr. Breda Kenny, noted that the route now encapsulates all of Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, which has been a global tourism phenomenon.

Dr. Kenny stated that the Cool Route offers the very best scenery, attractions and experiences for marine visitors. The land-side tourism infrastructure is well developed on all of its coastlines. She stressed that the major emphasis in the project is now to internationally market the Cool Route to a growing marine visitor clientele. The inclusion of Galway, Mayo and Clare coastlines represents a very significant addition to the route in terms of its overall visitor offerings.

Local coastal enterprises, who are interested in being featured as Cool Route attractions, places to eat, visit or experience – are invited to register free of charge on the Cool Route Information and Booking Platform
